Currently, dentures based on model-cast frameworks are in many cases the standard for removable dental prosthesis. Products made of cobalt-chromium alloys are conventionally manufactured by investment casting with a high proportion of manual work steps. This manual production is a health burden for the technical staff and causes a lot of hazardous waste. Previous attempts to use powder bed-based additive manufacturing processes often resulted in quality variations and excessive stiffness of the manufactured product, which is associated with reduced comfort for the patient. Within the project, the Binder Jetting process will be evaluated as a possible manufacturing strategy for dental prostheses. Compared to the widely used laser powder bed fusion process, it is characterized by higher build-up rates, the elimination of the need for support structures and lower surface roughness. The entire process chain for additive manufacturing of dental prostheses via binder jetting will be considered, evaluated and optimized with regard to economic efficiency, reproducibility and digitization.
