How the process chain for manufacturing clasp dentures can be accelerated and made more sustainable is the central question of the BMBF-funded project ProDentAM.
The aim of the ProDentAM research project is to develop a process chain comprising additive manufacturing, specifically metal binder jetting, and plasma electrolytic polishing for the production of metallic framework structures for dental prostheses. This is intended to reduce manual work steps and the environmental and health impact of manufacturing these structures. Dentales Service Zentrum GmbH & Co. KG welcomed us for the kick-off in Göttingen and later for a tour of the dental laboratory in Gieboldeshausen. This allowed for a lively exchange on challenges in dentistry, especially on the issues of sustainability (e.g., in the use of chemicals and energy consumption in the production of clasp dentures) and digitalization (e.g., through alternatives to jaw impressions). How the process chain for manufacturing clasp dentures can be accelerated and made more sustainable is the central question of the BMBF-funded project ProDentAM.
